Build your class with these modules

All modules are self-contained and can be taken in any order. All skill levels are allowed in all classes; your instructor tracks your progress and will take you to the next level. Repeat any module as many times as you like until you have met your goals for those skills. (Keep in mind that each time you repeat, it counts as a lesson, e.g. if you take Walking/Leash skills five times, that uses up five lessons.)

  • Lecture/Orientation. **REQUIRED first module for first-time students, and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for everyone else!**  This first module gets everyone prepared for the rest of the modules s/he will be taking. We will share our training principles, answer any questions, and give you some homework so you will be ready for your next session. (1.5-2 hours; counts as one class module.)
DO NOT BRING YOUR DOGS TO THIS MODULE.
  • Basic Trio: Basic Trio classes give you those basic commands everyone needs. Learn how to teach these to your dog, or if s/he knows the command already, learn how to develop the command so your dog will do it under any circumstances and without treats.

    Basic Trio (Control):
    Sit
    Down
    Come

    Basic Trio (Focus):
    Watch/Check-ins
    Touch
    Stay

  • Walking/Leash Skills: This module is totally dedicated to making you a great handler of your dog on leash, whether you are moving or not, whether there is a squirrel, cyclist, other dog, ball, leaf, etc. etc. there or not! Start at the beginning or troubleshoot that horrible walker you've struggled with forever!
  • Manners: A well-trained dog is well-mannered, and these classes make sure you know how to teach your dog to be polite: to greet people and dogs properly, to wait his/her turn, to be quiet when you ask, move out of your way instead of being underfoot, and when need be, stay calmly in one place.

    Manners (Greetings):
    Front door/Greetings
    Front door/Dashing
    Wait
    Go Say Hi

    Manners (Control):
    Enough
    Move
    Mat/Place

  • Problem Prevention/Fixing:As your pup grows up, s/he can develop issues not seen when s/he's younger. It's essential to do preventive work till they are at least TWO YEARS OLD so these problems never surface! ...And if they have surfaced already, these classes will show you how to fix them.

    Problem Prevention/Fixing (Handling):
    Teeth, toes,
    ears, eyes,
    brush, comb,
    towel, etc.

    Problem Prevention
    (Guarding, Stealing):

    Guarding/Stealing/
    Counter surfing/Begging
    Leave it
    Drop it

  • Puppy (15 weeks and younger ONLY): Start that puppy off right with these specially designed sessions that combine fun and important socialization opportunities with some basic commands. During the first 16 weeks of a dog's life, Mother Nature helps you socialize your dog so they don't becoming fearful later in life. After that you are on your own! These classes show you what to do to take advantage of that window of opportunity.

    Puppy (Explore, Sit, Handling):
    Play
    Explore/Expose
    Handling
    Sit

    Puppy (Explore, Follow, Come, Down):
    Expose/Explore
    Follow
    Come
    Down

  • Clicks & Tricks: Learn what's fabulous about clicker training and how you can use it for fun and behavior modification. We will get you started (clicker included!) and teach your dog some basic tricks. If you know clicker already, come in with your own projects that we can explore or choose from our verrrrry long list of tricks. Work on whatever tricks you want at your pace. Or learn how to impact behavior, for example, how to calm your dog using clicker. Or find out how clicker can enhance regular obedience training. WARNING: Clicker is addictive -- once you start, it's hard to stop!!!
  • Reactive Dog. For those dogs that have trouble being around other dogs. Take this module to develop the skills necessary to work your dog into a group class so he can become a more social, better behaved pup. You must contact Christy to register for this class.
  • No-dog Seminars: Feel the need to sit, listen and discuss a particular issue? Then leave your dog at home and come to one of these seminars focused on a single topic such as how to read canine body language, housetraining, barking, fear/overreactivity, etc.
  • Specials. This group of modules changes with your feedback. Standard are CGC prep/testing, problem-solving workshops, private consultations and field trips (weather permitting). What would you like to see covered?

**Remember, first-time students MUST take the Lecture/Orientation first before taking any other classes.**
